Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), convicted of murder he did not commit, befriends some of the other inmates, in particular Red (Morgan Freeman) in the prison where he was sent. He learns to cope with his new life and is best able to withstand the long years spent in prison. On the one hand, he has to pay atonement for a crime he did not commit, while on the other hand he keeps his hopes alive. The film also ranks the best in the list of the Top 250 Films of all time on IMDb. (IMDb – 9,3)
