2020/USA – Drama, History, Thriller
Based on a true story, the film is about the trial of seven people arrested during protests in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic National Convention, which was held in the shadow of the controversy over the Vietnam War following the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy.
The trial of the defendants charged with conspiracy and sedition took place in 1969. After the case of the eighth defendant Bobby Seale was separated due to a mistrial, the remaining seven defendants Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines and Lee Weiner are referred to as the “Chicago Seven”.
During the trial, the attitude and behaviour of the judge Julis Hoffman towards the defendants and the anti-African-Americanism and violation of the right to a fair trial in the United States are clearly revealed, and at the end of the trials, the Chicago Seven respond to the corrupt system with the ignored facts.
The film, which featured famous actors such as Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Keaton, was also nominated for six Oscars, including the “Best Picture” category. (IMDb – 7.8)
